Campgaw Mountain County Reservation
Campgaw Mountain County Reservation is primarily located in Mahwah, New Jersey, although portions of the park stretch into the neighboring towns of Oakland and Franklin Lakes. The park is accessible via Ramapo Valley Road. Campgaw Mountain has an elevation of 735 ft. It hosts a ski resort with two chair lifts and one magic carpet. You can hike year-round on it’s trails. There are also a handful of campsites, some are equipped with lean-tos of dubious quality. You must reserve your campsite in advance. Two acres are dedicated to MEVO Fresh Root Farms, a community based educational farm. The only facilities available to the general public since the farm was established are pit toilets at both the parking lots, and at the south end of the park where MEVO farms meets the silver trail. There is also a very popular disc golf course (be forewarned: disc golf players are often drinking and/or smoking pot, especially on the back side of the mountain). This park is excellent for the beginning hiker, families who walk together, and I highly recommend this park when you’re trying new boots because of the range of terrain in a compact space.
